The Heritage Santa Cruise is a charity event for those who don’t take themselves too seriously. Fortunately for the ninth year running, we found a group of generous enthusiasts, who were happy to dress up and join our Christmassy convoy raising a festive cheer at The Children’s Trust.
Putting the Fun in fundraising
In exchange for £20, which goes straight into the ‘fun activity’ pot at the Tadworth based charity, each driver is given 2 Santa costumes, a sticker, a map and some German Christmas biscuits that were kindly made for us by Betsy’s Bake in Brighton for just the cost of ingredients.
Collecting the cash
Through the selling of the suits, plus additional donations including a cheque for £150, we collected £1105. All running costs for the day are covered by us at Heritage, which means 100% of all money taken goes to this great cause.
Cruising in the name of…
This year the revised rural route offered a longer but more scenic journey for our sixty or so Santas and their sleighs. Passing through Pulborough then up the A29 before rejoining the A24, our resident snapper Lee was waiting along the way to capture the convoy in motion, prior to them all parking up at Tadworth.
What is the Children’s Trust?
The Children’s Trust offers residential and community-based services for young people who have a brain injury, many of whom have acquired it through an accident or illness. Our trip to see the staff and the children at Tadworth each year is humbling, to say the least, leaving us feeling very thankful for the good health of ourselves and our loved ones.
Giving what you can
On top of paying to take part, many of our Santas came with additional gifts for the Children, who are so dependant on the work that The Children’s Trust does. Gift bags galore filled the space under the tree in the school hall. We even had a large ‘Kevin the Carrot’ donated, which made the trip in the front of the Heritage Pick-up truck with Sean, who works in our Returns Dept.
It’s always great to see pets participating in our Santa Cruise and this year a number of Dogs joined in the fun.
Ten years in 2019
We hope even more of you will join us for the 10th annual Santa Cruise in 2019. We’ll do all we can to make it even more special and hopefully raise even more cash for this fantastic cause. Pop Sunday 1st December 2019 in your diaries now and stay tuned to our Social Media and email newsletters for further details closer to the time.
Thanks once again to everyone who took part and to Keren and the team at Tadworth for making us feel most welcome with hot drinks and snacks.
